I have always been drawn to painting landscapes in watercolour, but my recent work reflects an evolution that began after I graduated from the University of Central Lancashire in 1998. Since then I’ve explored a range of media and approaches, building on the fundamentals I learned at university while incorporating new techniques and methods.

My practice and inspiration for translating the upland wilds begins with outdoor sketching to capture the essence of a place — the immediate conditions, light, and weather — and then develop those sketches into finished studio pieces. The spontaneity and memory of the place are key factors in the development of the final painting.
